1-4 pm $25 ARM BALANCE WORKSHOP Learn to Lift Off & Fly High Defying Gravity with Your Own Body Well, here it is, a workshop on what may be the most fun or seemingly most difficult part of your yoga practice. ARM BALANCES! Typical impressions include: -They look so pretty -They are so much fun -They are my favorite part of yoga -They are only for advanced yogis -I could never do that -Maybe in ten years In this workshop we will explore how and why they can be possible and fun NOW for ANY BODY Very few of us are indifferent to these beautiful postures filled with grace and lightness. In this workshop we will learn how to lift off: no longer being stuck to the ground by our bodies, our fears or our misconceptions about what we are capable of. Arm balances require more than strength, skill or experience. They require a delicate balance of power & grace, of control & surrender, and of strength & freedom. In this class, we will discuss the dynamics of what makes arm balances possible. We will explore not only the physical components to a successful flight but also the attitude and approach that allow us to achieve what we may have thought improbable. In this workshop you can expect to learn: • The dynamics of your body that help to create an arm balance as well as how to locate and use them • How balance is achieved through the harmonious integration of strength, weight placement and freedom • How to recognize what role your mind & attitude play in your ability to fly • Specific arm balancing postures including crow, flying splits, firefly, scissors, mountain climber & locust • The essentials for beginning to move from one arm balance to another- defying gravity and playing in the air • How to incorporate the fundamentals we learn today into more familiar postures of your yoga practice as well as your jumps to and from down dog So, my intention is to offer a workshop where ANYBODY WITH ANY EXPERIENCE can learn more about how to incorporate the feeling of lightness and flying into their yoga practice. If you’ve never lifted off your feet before or if you’re a yogic acrobat, I am confident that you will have a great experience and potentially learn powerful new connections in your yoga. For beginners, I promise that you will take your feet off of the mat in this workshop. For experienced fliers, I promise to introduce and explore the dynamics that will take your arm balances to a new level of lightness, freedom and confidence. Come and have some fun!!!!
