Yoga One Welcomes Jim Bennitt Workshop dates: March 23, 24, & 25
Friday evening 7-9pm According to Tantra, through the right blending, we can make ourselves bigger than the sum of our parts. The key for this transformation is moving from matter to energy to consciousness. In this special class we will use the Tantric tools of asana (including mindful vinyasa), pranayama (breathing techniques), bandha (energy "locks") and mudra (combinations of the first three "tools") to transform on physical, energetic and psychic levels. Open to all levels. Saturday morning 9:30-12pm The Yogic, Tantric and Ayurvedic texts tell us there are 72,000 nadis (energy channels) in the body. The more we purify these channels, the more efficient energy (prana) flows through. In this unique class, we will focus on purifying the three most importart nadis to bring about balance before we begin to run high currents of prana through the body. Open to all levels. Saturday afternoon 2-4:30 pm "Om agni mede puruhitam" I meditate on fire as priest. (Opening line of the Rig Veda) Agni (fire) is at the core of all spiritual traditions. In Tantric Yoga, we use the breath and bandhas to strengthen the element of fire which burns away the "rubbish" that blocks the flow of prana through the spine. In this rare class, you will experience one of the most powerful techniques in all of Yoga. Some experience with pranayama and bandhas is recommended. Also come with an empty belly!
We will incorporate some of the previous techniques in a more intense yet intelligently sequenced asana practice. Students should be familiar with sirsasana (headstand away from the wall), adho mukha vrksasana (handstand), urdhva dhanurasana (upward facing bow) and deeper backbends, hanumanasana (splits) and similar poses.
