Foundations of a Fearless Inversion Practice Workshop

Turn your world upside down!
Inversions are some of the most exciting and exhilarating postures found in yoga. They also can seem quite mystical. By simply bringing your head below your heart with your feet up, you can experience amazing suppleness and elasticity. Inversions have a variety of effects on us:

  • Flush organs in the head and upper body with fresh oxygenated blood.
  • Activate the glands that rule the immune system- pituitary, pineal, thyroid and thymus. (Flushing with fresh blood supply invigorates and rejuvenates our inner pharmacy.)
  • Blood drains from our lower torso and legs, creating suppleness.
  • Feels great!

Many of us have been in class and heard the posture “HEADSTAND” or “SHOULDERSTAND” called out, and been left wondering what to do next. This Saturday we will create a workshop environment that includes hands on assisting and time for Q & A. You can expect a flowing sequence at the beginning of the workshop designed to create an inner strength for you to go upside down. We will investigate the foundations of inversions and create a dependable knowledge base in which to flip! Join us in a very supportive environment to discover your own youthful desire to play- to turn upside down for a day! This could be your opportunity to sample the rejuvenating nature of turning upside down. And you must know, you won’t be the only one who has never inverted. Come into our safe and explorative environment and play with us! If you are a student that wonders what the first step to turning upside down is, or if you would like to explore your fears of inverting in a compassionate and giving environment, join us. If you are not new to inverting, you too will get a lot out of this workshop!

In this workshop we will:

  • Build the foundation for ALL participants to turn upside down
  • Learn new techniques (tricks) to turning upside down
  • Learn how effortlessness and strength merge to create ease within your yoga practice. It’s the “try easy” approach instead of “trying hard” that leads to easy inversions.
  • Discover what Bandhas and Ujjayi Breath are and how important they are to creating the ease within postures.
Postures we will cover: Headstand, shoulderstand, forearm balance and pincha mayurasana, bakasana a & b (crow), handstand, side crow, scissors, and maybe more!

And for more “Level 2” practices, we will learn how to flow with grace from one inversion to the next.
